A declutchable gearbox acts as a "mechanical sandwich" component. Normally, the pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder links directly to the valve stem through a central drive adapter. Under typical automated status, the override’s worm gear is completely disengaged from the drive sleeve, allowing the actuator to rotate the valve back and forth freely. When manual override is required (during power failures, line blockages, or control tests), the operator pulls the manual clutch handle, which rotates an eccentric cam. This cam shifts the worm shaft into engagement with the outer worm gear wheel. Now, rotating the handwheel controls the valve stem directly.
