Rack and pinion actuators deliver a flat, linear torque profile across their entire 90-degree rotation. This makes them ideal for quarter-turn valves that require consistent torque, such as plug valves and linear-profile ball valves. Scotch yoke actuators generate a U-shaped torque curve with higher torque at the start and end of the stroke. They are often preferred for larger valves that require high break-to-open forces.
We use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to identify potential stress concentrations on the rack teeth and drive pinion. Dual piston guide rings reduce side load on the piston seals, minimizing wear. We also perform life cycle testing to verify component reliability up to one million operations.
For harsh environments, we provide high-durability coatings, including hard anodizing, epoxy coatings, and chemical nickel plating. Our standard seals can be upgraded to silicone or viton elastomer sets to support operational ranges from -45°C up to +150°C.
Our declutchable manual override gearbox allows manual valve operation during system failures or power outages. Engaging the clutch engages the worm gear with the drive sleeve, allowing manual override. Disengaging the clutch returns control to the pneumatic actuator.
